Chuck Place is a storyteller. Whether the assignment is a single portrait, a feature length article, an annual report or an entire book, Place digs into the heart of a project, creating an intimate connection between the viewer and the subject. Chuck is at ease with a wide range of individuals and insatiably curious about people and how they live. He uses these two facets of his personality to put subjects at ease in front of his camera, shifting their focus away from the lens and toward their own lives and aspirations.
Place's easy collaborative manner makes every photo shoot fun, not only for the subjects, but for the art directors and photo editors as well. Open to creative suggestions, Chuck Place welcomes input from the client while adding his own distinct viewpoint to a subject. The results of each assignment reflects this close partnership between Place, his clients and his subjects. Attention to organization and detail is balanced with the view that if you are not having fun--you are doing it all wrong. Much of Place's photography celebrates this viewpoint, which inevitably shows in the faces of his subjects.
